Starting the Carreterra Austral
A short cut
Camping on Lago Posada
Perito Moreno national park
We drove 100 km offroad to see One of the most inaccessible parks in Argentina. Opened the doors to 80 km winds and freezing temperature (with sun). Stayed the night (yael spent the night in the Toyota) in the tent with all the covers we brought and wearing all our clothes. Beautiful place, couldn’t do one trek …

Update: arrived at half civilization after more then a week of being out there…
Don’t worry, we’ve been off the grid for the last week or so, no Internet , no cell, no towns. Finally !!!
In short ; got back to Calafate Argentina from Torres del Paine, drove to El Chalten, spent 2 days hiking around Fitz Roy mountain, took Ruta 40 dirt road up north, detoured to godborney or something when we almost ran out of fuel, drove 100 km to Perito Moreno national park ( 80 km/h winds, 0 degree night ) , drove 100 km out, took a side dirt trek to Lago Posada to see a rock, spent the night camped near a lake, took a short cut thru high desert for 6 hours, climbed the Andes in a dirt trail to cross into Chile (unbelievable trail).
Today (after the morning hike) started the Carraterra Austral .
Whew…
Down the coast
Woke up to start driving the 1200km we have to cover to get back to the Andes and the glaciers around calafate. At sunrise the day was fine, chill wind coming off the sea. 20 minutes later the sky was grey with cold winds blowing wildly. An hour later, no wind , freezing cold. 2 hours later we were driving on dirt roads in pouring rain, hoping the road won’t be washed out. ( we were still 200 km from the nearest village on a trail ) . An hour later the sun came out, took off the fleece. 30 minutes later – snow !
What a country…
