Now that the first part of the trip is done, I’ll be spending the next two weeks on the boat to Antarctica. With zero Internet the next post will be from there (if i can afford satellite fees for a picture) or only when i get back to Argentina.

Raining

05 Dec

Decided to camp out, seemed a lovely evening. Woke up to a soaking tent. We just threw the tent in the Toyota and drove off.
It kept on raining, so we kept on driving until we reached the argentinian border 80 km away. Once thru, we drove an extra 100 km on wet dirt roads in the rain. It was very pretty until we got a flat tire. 7500 km (5000 of dirt roads and trails) and we got a flat 150 km from the trip end. And while raining.
A park guard helped us change the tire and we were all over his new puppies.
Off to a hostel in San Marting de Los Andes to dry up…

Ran is somewhere on the way to Israel

02 Dec

We said goodbye to ran. He was last seen taking the ferry to Port Montt, Chile. He was carrying an apple, 2 granola bars and a Hebrew-Spanish dictionery. Then he was supposed to find the bus station, buy a ticket to Bariloche, fly the next day to Buenos Aires and get on a flight to Israel the day after. All to get back early to help with his wedding…
We never heard form him since…

Chaiten, a ex-town beneath the volcano

29 Nov

Arrived at chaiten, which was evacuated in 2008 after the volcano erupted (erupted again in 2009). 4000 people moved away, 80 are left. Electricity from generators, water sometimes, basic food. Stayed in the area for 3 days waiting for a ferry out. The ship company wasn’t exactly sure when the ferry will arrive and if it is a car ferry.

Camping on Lago Posada

20 Nov

Almost ran out of fuel on Ruta 40, so we decided to push our luck and sleep in the high desert of Argentina. Started driving along a lake and saw a couple of huts on a beach.
